Service Description:

Provides information and referral services that enable people to access and benefit from community resources.

2-1-1 Alameda County is a three-digit phone number that provides information and referral services by phone and through the development of resource products. The 2-1-1 Phone Line formerly known as CHAIN (Community Housing And Information Network) provides information and referral on shelter, transitional, subsidized, and permanent low-cost housing plus other human services in Alameda County to both individual clients and agencies.

INFORMATION MANAGEMENT manages a computerized database of over 1,350 human services in Alameda County. Works in cooperation with information and referral providers throughout the Bay Area to provide access to regional I & R services. Alameda County products include: "The Big Blue Book, Directory of Human Services for Alameda County," Online services directory (www.alamedaco.info), Directory on Disk, database subscription, specialized program lists and directories, and presorted mailing labels.

HOUSING manages a computerized database of over 57,000 housing units located throughout Alameda County. Works in cooperation with Alameda County Housing Authority jurisdiction and rental housing associations conducting outreach to landlords so they will list their properties and consider subsidizing their units through Section 8, Shelter Plus Care, or other subsidy programs. Emergency shelter, transitional, subsidized and permanent housing information is available free of charge through 2-1-1. Annual Housing subscription available for a nominal fee.

AFTER HOURS PHONE SERVICE provided to Alameda County Children's Protective Services, Foster Care Placement Line, Adult Protective Services, and the Public Guardian's office.

PRISON HEALTH SERVICES contracts with Eden I&R to provide translation services for health screenings of Vietnamese and Cantonese inmates.

CANTONESE LANGUAGE ASSISTANCE BUREAU (CLAB) offers 24-hour translation service to assist AT&T operators in the San Francisco Bay Area when Cantonese speakers dial "0."

DISASTER PREPAREDNESS AND PLANNING activities both locally and statewide. Current member of Collaborating Agencies Responding to Disasters (CARD) and Emergency Managers Association of Alameda County.

AIDS HOUSING AND INFORMATION PROJECT (AHIP) offers information and referral to housing and social services for people living with HIV/AIDS and for HIV/AIDS service providers throughout Alameda County.

ROVING HOUSING RESOURCE PROGRAM (RHRP) offers intensive skill building workshops, one-on-one information, advocacy and referrals related to housing and social services for clients and staff of participating homeless shelters, recovery centers, jail facilities and employment training programs throughout Alameda County.

YOUTHLINK phone line provides 24-hour recorded information and referral services for youth wards of the court, at-risk youth, their families, case managers, probation officers, law enforcement officials and others working with the youth population.

EARNED INCOME TAX CREDIT (EITC) phone line offers access to free Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) sites for low income individuals and families, increasing the working poor's ability to receive tax refunds.
